Carroll was a Seaman Second Class (S2c) or Seaman Apprentice (SA) today, in the US Naval Reserves during WWI. He married Betty Ann Clayton on 02 Jun 1927 in Rochester, Olmstead, MN. Their only child was Carolyn Ann Gary who was born in El Paso, TX on 16 June 1928. She never married. She was buried in Sedona, AZ next to her long time companion Jeanne Kaffer Folk
