Captain William P. Welch, a Prominent Citizen Died Yesterday
Athens, Ga. March 18 (Special) --Captain William P. Welch one of Atnens’ most prominent citizens, died suddently this afternoon of congestion of the heart. The attack was very sudden, Captain Welch having been as well as usual a few hours before the fell stroke.
He was at his house when death came upon him. His son, Mr. John W Welch, returned to Savannah yesterday. The funeral of Captain Welch will occur tomorrow. He was a native of Haywood County, North Carolina, and during his younger days gained considerable reputation as a lawyer. He served his native state in the house and senate and was urged to run for congress but declined.
Captain Welch have lived in Athens for fifteen years. For two years he served Atnens as one of the councilmen. He was brother-in-law of State Senator W. J. Morton and of Cashier James White, of the National Bank of Athens. He was a man of generous nature and of many friends.
