Dr. Robert V. Welch was born in Haywood County December 4, 1822. He parents were William and Mary Love Welch. He was the grandson of Colonel Robert Love. He attended Washington College in TN and received his M.D. at University of Kentucky and then opened a practice in Waynesville. He was a surgeon in Confederate Army. He was of Baptist faith. His children: Julius C., Samuel C., Marietta who married Dr. J. Howell Way, and Nora L. who married H.R. Ashton.
