Charlie Canatella, Jr.

1931 - 2006

Charlie Canatella, Jr. left this world to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 2, 2006. Born on Nov. 11, 1931 in Bryan, TX. Charlie was the tenth of eleven children born to Italian immigrants, Charlie and Minnie Canatella. At a young age the family moved to Millican, TX where Charlie attended grade school and later Navasota High School. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Charlie returned home to continue doing what he loved Ðraising cotton in the Brazos Bottom.

Charlie met Judy Beeler in the summer of 1955, and they were married on Oct. 12, 1958 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson. Charlie leaves his family with many cherished memories of his wonderful personality, quick wit, and a great love for his family and friends, but most important of all, he will be remembered for his strong faith in God and love of reading his Bible and praying every day. He was a true friend to many and a man of honesty and integrity.

In 1959, Charlie left the farm and became a lab technician for Soil Mechanics/Buchanan & Associates. Charlie truly loved his work and enjoyed working on many projects during his 40-year career, a few of which were Somerville Lake, Texas World Speedway, Monsanto Chemical Plant, Perrin Air Force Base, Lake Bryan, Walnut Creek Mining, and many years at Northwestern Resources. He was also involved with many projects for the City of Bryan, City of College Station, and Texas A&M University.

For many years Charlie was an avid hunter and fisherman, and the family enjoyed many years of camping. In later years, his favorite pass-time was playing cards with friends and family and frequent trips to Louisiana.
