Just as she had hoped Willie Mae was able to spend her final days at home surrounded by her family and loved ones. This was made possible by the compassionate and skilled care from the hospice staff of VITAS Healthcare.
Willie Mae was born in Brazos County, Wednesday, October 12, 1927 to Charles and Minnie Vasta Canatella. At an early age she moved with her family to Grimes County where she spent most of her life. She married Brazzie Licce on January 9, 1949 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas.
When not staying at home to raise four children Willie Mae worked at various grocery stores and was eventually the co-owner of Licce's Drive In Grocery in Navasota. After the sale of Licce's Drive In Willie Mae managed a day care center in her home on 10th Street where she had the privilege of being called Granny Licce by her many young charges.
Willie Mae will be remembered for many talents but none more special than her fine ability to cook and bake many memorable dishes-her cinnamon rolls and lasagna are legendary. For the past few years Willie Mae lived with Marian and Lisa in Fort Worth where she adopted two more grandchildren-this time the 4 legged kind-Maggie and Calvin who became her constant loving companions.
Willie Mae was married to Brazzie for 33 years and he preceded her in death on 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents as well as sisters, Josephine Gargano, Bonnie Canatella, Mary Turner and Carrie Marino and brothers, Gus, Joe, Luke and Charlie.
Willie Mae is survived by her four children, Polly Harville and husband, Wayland of Navasota, Paul Licce of Bastrop, Theresa Brooks of Bryan and Marian Licce and wife, Lisa Bryson-Licce of Fort Worth. Additionally she is survived by four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, Angie Singleton and her daughter, Kayla, Crystal and Jay Hassell and their children, Austin and Addie, Kane and Jamie Pustejovsky and their two sons, Preston and Parker and Leigh Anne and Barrington Malcolm and their two daughters, Zyrah and Aydiah; two brothers, Sam Canatella and wife, Bernice of Navasota and Anthony Canatella and wife, Jane Ann of Bryan; numerous other relatives and a great number of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Wayne Marion, Anthony Marion, Paul Landi, Paula Cemino, Sam Canatella, Jr. and Michael Licce.
