Mid Howell was first married to Cressie Victoria Hines (1890-1974), then Urnie Sandefer (1905-1941) and then to Evie Lena Jeane (1917-2005).

Funeral services for Middleton Rufus Howell, 84 of 2822 Pack St. were at 3 p.m. today, July 9, in Shiloh Baptist Church in Dry Creek. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Mr. Howell died late Saturday at the home of one of his sons here. He was a retired barber. A native of Sugartown, he had lived here most of his life. He was a member of the Sam Todd Lodge No. 182, Hines Chapter No. 54 R.A.M.; Lewis B. Frusha Council No. 32 R & S.M., and Easter Star Friendship Chapter in Sugartown. Survivors are his wife; six sons, Pershel Howell of Houston, Ernest Howell of Lake Charles, Lum and James B. Howell of Baton Rouge, Glenn Howell of Barstow, Calif., and Billy Howell of Sulphur. also, two daughters, Mrs. Gertha Hendricks and Mrs. Natalie Smith, both of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Mrs. Vicki Huckaby of Port Arthur, Tex., Mrs. Bessie Stanley of Lake Charles and Mrs. Clara Harper of Sugartown; 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
