James Wesley Elstan died of complications at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Fred and Olive Schramm, East Fifth Street, extended. Three years ago, he moved from his farm west of Elida, Ohio, to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Olive Schramm. He had been in declining health for the past three years and during the fall and winter months, his condition had been serious.
Born in Paulding County on July 29, 1867, Mr. Elstan was a son of John and Mary Elston. He was married to Amelia Garrison on August 16, 1885. In his early life he was engaged in cutting timber and later was a farmer, retiring from active work four years ago. The death of Mrs. Elstan occurred on May 10, 1940.
At the time of his death Mr. Elstan was seventy-four years, five months and twenty days of age. Since his residence in Delphos, Ohio, he was united with Saint Peter's Luthern Church.
He is survived by two sons, and five daughters: Mrs. Ben Knueve, South Franklin Street; John Wesley, Moore Haven, Florida, Georgia Frederick, Homer, Michigan; Mrs. Alton Blyth, west of Delphos; Mrs. Dola Richardson, Euclid Avenue; Mrs. Florence Ladd, near Elida; and Mrs. Fred Schramm, East Fifth Street. There are twenty-one grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A half-brother preceded him in death.
Service will be conducted on Sunday afternoon. A service at the Harter Funeral Home at 1 p.m. will be followed by rites at Saint Peter's Luthern Church at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Mellingers Cemetery, near Roselum.

The remain will lie in state at the funeral home.
