Civil War (CSA) Co. A, 1st Kentucky Cavalry under Capt. Noel, served until Battle of Salt Works, Virginia in Oct. 1864 when he lost his right leg by a bullet from a Spencer Rifle, while driving the enemy from the field. School Teacher, County Assessor, Constable, Operator of Stoneman Hotel and Superintendent of the City Scales. Grandfather Benjamin Aull was in the War of 1812 Died from smallpox the same day as son-in-law Charles Usher, who is on other side of this stone, died from injuries he received in a fall in July.
