Dana F. Horton, 81, formerly of Ulster and Greens Landing, Pa., died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, N. Towanda Twp., Pa. Dana had been a resident of the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, Towanda, for the past seven years. Dana was born in Sayre, Pa., on Aug. 29, 1927 the son of the late Howard Horton and Pauline SCHULTZ Horton and was a graduate of Ulster High School class of 1945. On Oct. 11, 1956 he married the former Betty Jean Neuber. In early years, Dana was employed by the GLF and the Garden State Creamery, both in Ulster. He also owned and operated his dairy farm on Ghent Hill for many years ,and drove school bus for the Athens Area School District for 34 years until declining health no longer permitted him to continue. Dana was formerly employed by the P & C Market in Sayre for several years. Dana attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Towanda, was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2191, Towanda and an honorary member of the Sheshequin-Ulster Fire Company. He was a member of Union Masonic Lodge No. 108 F & A.M. Towanda, Bradford County Shrine Club, Irem Temple Shrine Club of Dallas, Pa., and was a 50-year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Williamsport 32nd degree. Dana enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean Horton at home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard D. and Mary Horton of Sayre, Robert C. and Lisa Horton of Towanda, Roger L. and Sharon Horton of Towanda; 11 grandchildren, Chad Garrison and his wife Jean, Sarah Shriver and her husband Jerry, Katrina Kapichok and her husband Guy, Raelyn Horton, Rachelle Horton, Jacob Horton, Amanda Horton, Kiersten Horton, Roger Horton Jr., Brock Horton, Christopher Horton; seven great-grandchildren; brother- and sister-in-law, L. Cecil and Paula Horton of Athens; sister, Janet Wieziolowski of Elmira, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Swingle.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Bowen-Farr Funeral Home, 6 Gordon Farr St., Ulster, Pa.. with Pastor Jira Albers of Trinity Lutheran Church, Towanda, officiating assisted by Pastor Lloyd Vaughn, Assistant Pastor of the Independent Baptist Church, Towanda, Pa. Interment will follow in the Sheshequin Valley Cemetery, Sheshequin Twp., Pa. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday morning at the funeral home. Union Lodge No. 108 F. & A.M. will hold Masonic services Monday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
