Susie (Horton) Swingle, 81, died on Monday, April 12, 2004 at the Sayre House. She was born August 6, 1922 in Ghent, at home to Howard and Helen (Schrader) Horton. She was raised in Ghent and graduated from Ulster High School. She lived at 509 First Street in Athens for 40 years. On Oct. 4, 1947 she married the late W. Kenneth Swingle. She ran the Sayre Lingerie Store for 15 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Eastern Star and the Athens Senior Citizens Club. Surviving are her children, Judy (Frederick) Grace of Allegany, N.Y., Dale (Julie) Swingle of Sayre, Pa.; six grandchildren, Dustin, Rachel, Garrett Swingle and Ryan, Chris, Megan Grace; a sister, Janet Wieziolowski of Elmira, brothers, Cecil Horton of Athens, Dana Horton of Towanda, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, W. Kenneth Swingle in 1983. Friends may call Thursday, April 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 445 Waverly St., Waverly, N.Y. Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ulster Cemetery.
