HOWARD EVERHART OBITUARY
HOWARD M. EVERHART, 91, of Hoagland, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Lutheran Homes, Fort Wayne. Born in Monroe, he was the son of the late Perry and Mable Everhart. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel, Fort Wayne. The World War II U.S. Army veteran was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of Farm Bureau Association. He retired from General Electric after 12 years, in 1981. He also retired from Civil Service, in 1961, having worked at Casad Depot, in New Haven and Granite City, Ill. Throughout his career, he also farmed and repaired locomotives for Nickel Plate Railroad. He is survived by his daughter, Donna L. (Stephen) Melcher of New Haven; grandchildren, Mark (Alice) Melcher of Travelers Rest, S.C. and Michelle (Kent) Bearman of Fort Wayne; and great-grandchildren, John and Sarah Melcher. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Esther, in 2000; and brother, Perry J. Everhart. Mass of Christian Burial is 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11337 Old US 27, Fort Wayne, with calling half an hour prior. The Rev. Father Robert Van Kempen officiating. Calling also from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana Hwy. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, Masses, or Parkview Hospice.
