Alva Beal Dies At ge 77; Has 85 Descendants

Alva (Jake) Beal, 77, of Route 5, Mt. Vernon died at 5:35 a.m. today at GOod Samaritan Hospital. He was a farmer and former car shops employe.

Mr. Beal has 85 descendants.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Pleasant Hill Baptist church, with the Rev. Roy Beal and Rev. Leslie Hall officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix where friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Beal was born in Field Township, the son of Rev. E.M. and Isabelle (Smith) Beal.

He was married to Bessie Whitson, who preceded him in death in 1945.

Survivors include eight sons, Thel of Dix, George of Moweaqua, Ill., Oscar of Atwater, Ill., Waldo Bob of East Gary, Ind., John, Mort, Fred and Jim, all of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Champ and Mrs. Maude Connelly, both of Chicago, Mrs. Bessie Elliott of Wauconda, Ill., and Mrs. Lillie Arnett of Texico; three brothers, Charles and Robert, both of Mt. Vernon and Joe of Lombard, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Van Allen of Collinsville, Mrs. Maude Claybourn of Kell and Mrs. Julia Kate of Mountain View, Mo.; 45 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Thurston, and four brothers.

Mr. Beal was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
