Imogene (Gene) Black Gordy,79, of Hazlehurst, died Tuesday,February 23, 2010 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Services were held Saturday, February 27, at Hazlehurst United Methodist Church with burial in Hazlehurst Cemetery. She was born August 28, 1930 in Marks, Mississippi to Judge E.C. and Velora Black, the sixth of seven children.
Mrs. Gordy graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a degree in Education. After many years in the public school system she took a position with the Adult Education division of Copiah Lincoln Community College. She continued to tutor individuals even as
her health was declining. As her children were growing up, Mrs. Gordy served as a youth leader in the Hazlehurst United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: daughters, Dianne Brown of Brookhaven; Sheri Todd of Southaven; Janet Aguilar and son-in-law Pedro of Hazlehurst; son, Fred (Skeeter)Gordy, Jr. and daughter-in-law Ramona of Douglasville, GA; as well as ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She
will also be missed by Fred and Eileen Gordy of Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the youth programs of either Hazlehurst United Methodist Church of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, as she loved connections with
both church families.
