No headstone--no evidence of burial here. This is the 'most likely' place he was buried in Platte Co. MO. His last evidence was 1850 census where he lived with his son Sanders W McComas in Platte Co MO. Family history of Sanders W McComas said a 'flood in 1844 washed away many of the graves.'

From page 732 History of West Virginia by Virgil Anson Lewis:
"The first settlement within the county the date of which can be ascertained was that made by Jesse McComas, John McComas, David McComas, William and Moses McComas, all of whom came in the year 1799. In the summer of that year they cultivated twenty acres of corn, probably the first ever grown in the Upper Guyandotte Valley. In the autumn they returned east of the mountains and brought their families. Near them other cabins were soon reared by John Lucas, William Hinch and John Johnson. About the year 1800 Isaac Hatfield settled on Ranger's branch, a tributary of Ten-mile Creek and James Hatfield, William Smith and John L. Baker soon came to reside in the same vicinity. In 1807, Luke Adkins found a home near the mouth of Slash creek on Mud river, 12 miles southwest of the present site of Hamlin."

Moses McComas married 5 Feb 1793 in Christianburg, Montgomery Co. VA, Lucy Napier born 1774 died 1849 Jasper Co IL. ,daughter of Patrick Napier and Mary Burke.

The McComas's were plentiful in Cabell County VA (now WVA), a large and well-known family. There is even today, on the map, an area designated as the 'McComas District.' It is located across the river from Upper and Lower Heath's Creek.

In 1810 Moses McComas owned '26 acres near the Guyandotte River' and an additional 80 acres 'West side of the Guyandotte' River. Israel Heath's land was 15 acres at the mouth of the Guyandotte River and his two of his older sons had purchased property in the Mud River area off the Guyandotte River. On the Sims index, Moses McComas is listed as owning 450 acres West side Guyandotte in 1817.

Moses McComas and Lucy (Napier) McComas had a large family. 5 of his children married 5 of the children of his friend Israel Heath and wife Elizabeth (Blue) Heath during their time in Cabell Co. VA.

A statement made later by a descendent of Israel MComas said that Moses McComas was 'a farmer and during the Indian War served under General Harrison.' Moses McComas died in Platte County, MO. sometime after the age of 80 (he was still on a census at age 80 living with his son Sanders W. McComas in Platte Co. MO). Lucy (Napier) McComas, his wife, died Dec 23 1849 in Jasper Co. IL.

In addition to the original 5 McComas/Heath unions, much later in the story there are two more McComas/Heath unions. Lucy J Heath (daughter of William R Heath) marries Sanders W. McComas, a son of Nancy Heath and her husband William Burke McComas, 1st cousins. A daughter of Rush McComas, Cora McComas, also marries into the Heath family. With more than 21 grandchildren between them, the extended families of Israel Heath and half the family of Moses McComas migrated about the same time 1839 into early Platte Co MO when land became available. Both patriarchs lived around their very large extended families until their demise in Platte Co. MO.
