Cynthia McComas was the daughter of Moses McComas and Lucy Napier from Cabell Co. WV. She married Dr. James Henry Hereford prior to 1826 and they had children together. A daughter Frances Hereford was born in May 9, 1826 in Mercer's Bottom, Mason Co WV where the family Hereford lived, so we can date Cynthia McComas to that area May 9, 1826. Dr. J.H. Hereford moved around for his medical work in both KY and Tennessee and accounts say he went to Kentucky in 1830. It is unknown where and when first wife Cynthia (McComas) died, but Dr. Hereford remarried June 16, 1840 in Pike County, KY. Burial location for Cynthia has not been found.

A second child is attributed to James Henry Hereford and first wife Cynthia McComas: Lucy Ann 'Harriford' Hereford born Oct 12, 1827 VA d. Nov 24 1892 in Harold, Floyd Co. KY who married 25 Dec 1845 in Floyd County KY, Harrison 'Harry' JOHNS with whom she began having children in 1850 in Lawrence Co. KY:
