Property originally that of William Burke McComas (1810) and his wife Nancy (Heath) McComas (1814) who had moved here from Cabell County, Virginia. William was the son of Moses McComas and his wife Lucy (Napier) McComas and Nancy Heath the daughter of Israel Heath and his wife Elizabeth (Blue) Heath. Both extended families moved into early Missouri 1839/40.
Both William Burke and Nancy (Heath) McComas buried here. Rev. John Wesley Heath (brother to Nancy Heath) who married another of Moses McComas's children, Judith McComas, lived close by and is said to have been buried here but no headstone as yet uncovered in the brush. The cemetery is often overgrown with brush.
The land that the McComas Cemetery is situated on was, in early Missouri, a much larger spread belonging to the Heath and McComas families. James Heath and wife Chloe McComas (another daughter of Moses McComas and Lucy Napier)
bought 40 acres in Twp 52 (Carroll Township), Range 35, Sect 35 (southwest quarter of the southwest quarter of section thirty-five). William 'Burk' McComas and wife Nancy Heath bought 160 acres in Twp 52, Range 35, Sect 34 (the southeast quarter of section thirty four) which were adjacent properties.
A daughter of William Burke McComas and Nancy Heath, Mary F. McComas, had a second marriage to David Mock Kimsey and thus the land was eventually passed down to the Kimsey family, current owners.
