Michael Patrick Bateman passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the age of 33. Michael was born at Morristown Memorial Hospital, attended Assumption School in Morristown, N.J., and graduated with honors from Seton Hall Prep (1996) and Boston College (2000). A lifelong resident of Morristown, Michael grew up participating in CYO and Little League sports. He played soccer, basketball, lacrosse and baseball. Michael was passionate about the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, skateboarding and spending time at his family's home at Long Beach Island, N.J. With his curious nature, impeccable wit and unique sense of humor, Michael quickly befriended people from all walks of life. He ensured that whoever surrounded him would be laughing or smiling and he always gave freely of himself. Michael participated in Assumption's altar servers program and travelled to Appalachia with a youth ministry to help those in need. Later, as a young adult, he volunteered for the Red Cross, spent time assisting blind friends with their daily activities and tutored inner city school children. Michael had an entrepreneurial spirit and successfully ran his own home improvement business. Michael was predeceased by his father, Michael J. Bateman, and is survived by his mother, Nancy G. Bateman, and his brother, Brian J. Bateman. Michael is also survived by aunts and uncles, Patricia and Gerald Travis and Noreen and Richard Oelkers, as well as many cousins and many more friends.
