Mr. Grover Allen, 85, of Plymouth, and formerly of Koontz Lake, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at 2:55 p.m. La Porte County time at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
He was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Salyersville, Ky., to William and Minnie Allen, and had lived in the Koontz Lake area for 55 years, coming from Salyersville.
Mr. Allen had worked at New York Blower in La Porte. He was a 53-year member of Calvary Baptist Church, Knox. He loved gardening, fishing and reading the South Bend Tribune and the Salyersville Independent.
On May 24, 1952, in North Judson, he married Anna Lee Moore, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dixie (Bruce) Bennett of Mishawaka and Linda (Ben) Schaller of Bourbon, Ind.; one son, Charles (Connie) of Downers Grove, Ill.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Mildred Bays, Mazie Heister, Eva Rice, Ruth Howard, Ruby Minix, and Madge Whickcar, all of Walkerton; and four brothers, Cleatis “Jack” and Warren, both of Walkerton, Clifford of Plymouth and William of Florida.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Margie Minix and Adgie; and one brother, Clarence.
The funeral was Saturday at 11 a.m. La Porte County time at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Friends called Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. La Porte County time and Saturday from 9 a.m. La Porte County time until the service. Burial is in Grovertown Cemetery.
