Mr. Sawyer was a native of Adair county, where he was born in 1883, a son of John B. and Barbara Sawyer. He lived in Winterset for many years, and was employed here as a mechanic for the Sawyer Truck lines. He moved to Des Moines 21 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, the former Edna Johnston of Winterset; a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Peterson of Joliet, Ill.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lucy Davis of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Grace Burgess of Des Moines; two stepsons, Merle Johnston of Omaha and Bruce Johnston of Spencer; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, John K. Sawyer of Winterset; and four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hollen, Mrs. Pearl Morris, Dr. Grace Sawyer and Mrs. Rose Givan, all of Winterset.
