MRS. ROSE GLADYS SAWYER GIVAN
Mrs. Rose Gladys Sawyer Givan, the daughter of John B. and Barbara Drake Sawyer, was born on January 20, 1895 in Adair County, Iowa. When she departed this earthly life on May 28, 1966 she had reached. the age of 71 years, 4 months, and 8 days. Mrs. Givan had been in failing health for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Schrader of Greenfield, Iowa in 1952, and two brothers, James and Tom Sawyer.
Mrs. Givan had spent most of her adult life in Madison County, Iowa where she graduated from the Winterset High School and taught school for several years prior to her marriage to R. Lloyd Givan on June 29, 1918.
To this union seven children were born, six of whom are among the survivors: John F. Givan and Robert D. Givan of Denver, Colorado, Rosalie (Mrs. Rex) Haymond of Winterset, Lyle Givan of Englewood, Colorado, E. Louis Givan of Patterson, Iowa, and David A. Givan of Sunnyvale, California.
Other survivors include: 17 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hollen, Pearl (Mrs. Sydney) Morris, and Dr. Grace Sawyer, all of Winterset; one brother, John Sawyer of Winterset; many other relatives and numerous friends.
Mrs. Givan was a member of the First Methodist Church of Winterset. She was a former member of the Ladies Aid Society of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church near Macksburg Iowa and of the Women's Farm Bureau of Madison County.
Memorial services, conducted by the Rev. Everett K. Burham, were held in the First Methodist Church at Winterset, Iowa at 9:30 A.M. on May 31, 1966. Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery at Greenfield, Iowa.
