Funeral services for Howard Leslie Bass, 1204 Miller Avenue, were held Saturday, November 30, 1974 at Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel with Dr. Richard Chambers of Griswold officiating and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
A retired farmer and cattle buyer, he died at his home Wednesday, November 27, 1974 on his 85th birthday after an extended illness.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Bass, he was born November 27, 1889, at Carson and moved to Montgomery County from Pottawattamie County in 1945. He was married January 20, 1914 in Red Oak, Iowa to Claire Shearer, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gordon, Route 2, Red Oak; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Eckenrode of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania and Helen Bass, Red Oak, Iowa; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Bass, Red Oak, and Paul Bass, Valentine, Nebraska; sister, Mrs. Vera Magill, Atlantic, Iowa.
Mr. Bass attended Iowa State College, Ames, and was a member of the debating team there. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, member and Past President of Rotary Club, former member of Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and former member of Summit Lot No. 433 AF and AM, at Elliott.
