Marion Sutherland was born to David and Jane Menzies Sutherland in Scotland about 1831. She arrived with her parents on the Stephen Whitney landing in New York April 18, 1841. She was listed as Mary at the age of 10 years.

According to the article on the Lyman Wight Colony in the Journal of History, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints she married William Curtis near Mound City, Linn County, Kansas on September 7, 1846 on the overland trip to Texas from Wisconsin.

She married again to George Harmon in Bandera County, Texas on May 7, 1857.

According to a biography of Ezra Alpheus Chipman in "The Family Tree", a publication in Bandera County, Texas, Marion was the third wife of Ezra Alpheus Chipman. Her sister, Jeanette, had been married to Ezra and he married Marion after her sister's death. Jeanette died in 1887.

It is unknown when Marion died or where she is buried, although family legend indicates she is buried in an unmarked grave near Bracketville, Texas and died about 1906.
