Johannes was born to Jurian Westfall and Christina Kuykendall. He was christened by a circuit rider from the Kingston Dutch Church on June 24, 1711. He was raised on Minisink Island, which is in the Delaware River next to Montague, New Jersey. He wed Apolonia Kortrecht, daughter of Jan Kortrecht and Marytie Van Vredenburg, in 1732. They lived in Montague and had nine children who were all christened (C:) by the Minisink Church:

2) Christina, C: on May 19, 1736
3) Jurian, C: on May 29, 1739
4) Johannes (#1), C: on Jun 28, 1741
5) Elizabeth, C: on Apr 23, 1744

Johannes next wed Margaret Quick-Van Garden at the Minisink Church on July 16, 1757. They had two children:

Johannes was an elder of the Minisink Church, which was established by the Kingston Reformed Dutch Church in 1741, and located next to the Minisink burial ground. It is now part of the Delaware River Water National Park and only a few grave stones remain.
