Betty Haug was born November 16, 1915 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 22, 2011 at her home in Los Angeles.

She was the fourth of eight children born to Paul and Rose Wempe. Born and raised in Seneca, Kansas, she married her hometown sweetheart, Lester Haug, in 1938. Lester entered military service in June 1941 and they briefly lived in Riverside while he was on maneuvers at Fort Irwin.

Having seen Southern California, they decided to leave Kansas and settle here after World War II. They bought their first house at 7725 Anise Avenue in Westchester in 1950. Betty anchored her roots and made that house into a home for her family. She and Les lived in that home for the rest of their lives. After sixty-eight years of marriage, Lester died in 2006 and Betty continued to live in her home until her death.

Throughout her life, both Betty and Lester were prominent members of Visitation Catholic Parish. During their long and happy marriage, they raised two children and helped raise three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by one brother and three sisters, Gerald Wempe, Rosemary Luebbe, Elsie Steck, and Sally Smith; two children, Cindy Amira and Tim Haug; three grandchildren, David Haug, James Haug, and Amy Amira; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Malia, Amanda, Brad, and Camie.

A vigil/rosary service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Visitation Catholic Church, 6561 West 88th Street, Westchester.
