Sophia was born in the village of Marienhof, parish of Jördenstorf, AG Teterow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Born on 8 March 1833, she was christened Sophia Christina on 13 March. This was recorded in the Evangelische Kirche there. She was the daughter of Ludwig Bastian, a shepherd of Marienhof, and his wife, Sophia nee Schlorf.

She was married to John C. Wieting on 11 March 1860 at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville, Niagara County, New York.

In late July of 1860, the couple was living in Farm Ridge, La Salle County, Illinois. They were farmers & were listed in the US Census.

Sadly, Sophia died in February of 1861 of unknown cause.
