A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, in Bethany Cemetery in Warren for Howard Wayne Smith Sr., who died Aug. 17 at age 72.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 10, 1930, in McPherson, Kan., and moved in 1943 to Fort Stevens and Columbia City. He served in the National Guard and lived in St. Helens before moving in 1973 to Portland, where he was a truck driver for Viking Freight. In 1990, he retired to Crooked River Ranch and was a volunteer for the Crooked River Fire Department. He married Marian F. Crawford in 1952; she died in 1998.
Survivors include his sons, H. Wayne Jr. and Kenneth W.; daughters, Lorraine L. Renard and Patricia McCune; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
