Mary Lee "Sammie" went to elementary school in Dalhart, TX and then to private schools. She learned to fly airplanes. She married Joe Dick Slaughter in 1922 and they farmed and ranched and had a Ford agency in Lubbock, TX.

Sunday, March 6, in Dalhart, Tex., Miss Sam Killen became the bride of Joe Dick Slaughter of Roswell. Mr. and Mrs. Slaughter arrived in Roswell Monday for a visit in the Slaughter home before going to Lubbock, Tex., where they will make their home.
