SUBLIMITY - Shirley died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Sublimity, Ore., where she lived with her husband, Don. She had recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She was born in Springfield, Ore. to Mollie and Jess Seavey, hop ranchers in the Corvallis and Eugene areas. Shirley was a retired schoolteacher, avid rockhound and loved the outdoors. In 1992, she received a Jefferson award for her work as co-founder of the Iris Project, a drop-in center for people with mental illness.
She is survived by her husband, Don, a retired physicist-metallurgist; a sister; her five children; numerous grandchildren; and her dog, Roxie.
At her request, her remains will be cremated and the family will hold private services.
