MRS. SAMMIE RANDALL
---Mrs. Sammie Randall, daughter of the man who gave La Plata its name, died Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Timmons, in Macon at ninety-five. She was said to be the oldest living native La Platian.
---She was born in La Plata January 6, 1860, the daughter of Dr. Walt W. Moore and Eliza Jane Davidson Moore. In 1855, her father, a physician here for years, was one of four men who wrote their choice of names for this vicinity on slips of paper and dropped them in a hat. Dr. Moore's name "La Plata" was the one drawn. It has been said that Mrs. Randall was the first born in La Plata but this is unconfirmed.
---On January 10, 1884, she was married to William Randall who preceded her in death in 1903.
---She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John Timmons, with whom she made her home, and one son, Watt G. Randall of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Mrs. Arnold Shearon of Macon, Kenneth Timmons of Clarence, Max Timmons of Lilbouen and Mrs. Georgia Kuhl of Los Angeles, California and eight great-grandchildren.
---Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church in La Plata at 2:30. Officiating were Rev. Fred L. Hudson, pastor Emeritus of the church, assisted by Rev. Harved Johnson.
---The Christie Funeral Home was in charge.
