"Pioneer Carpenter and Former Resident of Granite Passes Away ~ stricken with Bright's Disease, John A. Gillett, pioneer of 1854, died Friday night at his residence in Granite. He had been a resident of Granite about ten years, moving to that settlement from Salt Lake, where he worked many years as a carpenter. Mr. Gillett was born in Grahamsville, Sullivan County, N.Y., January 8, 1839. Accompanied by his mother and brothers he arrived in Salt Lake valley in September, 1854. His father Horace Gillett died on the plains of cholera. He is survived by a widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. John Reeve, Denzil Gillett, Earl Gillett, Mrs. Vesta Park, and Leslie Gillett. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock at the Granite meeting house."
