Lydia lived her whole life in Madison, Ohio. She was the tenth child of 13. Her father, Asa, was a cabinet maker and farmer. At the age of 20, in 1858, she married her husband “Horace Allen” who farmed the land adjacent to her father's farm. Father Asa lived with Lydia’s family in the later years of life. Her father died in 1870 before her stroke around 1890 when she was in her 50’s.
