Married "Caroline Newcomb" in January of 1820 in Lake County and listed on a census taken Aug 7 of the same year as living in Madison with no children. By 1830 they have 5 children as confirmed in the census though it is listed as Madison Twp. in Geauga Co. Ohio. In 1840 it is now Lake Co. and there is 11 in the household and 1 employee which may be a farmhand or cabinet maker.
In the Madison Ohio 1850 Census Asa is described as a "Cabinet Maker" while middle sons Edward (18) & Walter (16) are listed as farmers, which means Asa both farmed and made furniture. The 8 youngest children are all listed with Silas the youngest only 2.
Rebecca Talcott, Asa's mother, was living with them in Madison, Ohio in 1860 per Census. Only 2 children remain at home on the farm, but son-in-law Horace Allen is listed above his family on the census and may have been neighbors. By 1870 Asa is a widower, age 69, and living with daughter Lydia and Horace Allen in Madison. He died later this same year. Listed as a "Retired Farmer".
Asa was buried in family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Madison, OH with one large monument (B2-1-8). The gravestone indicates "Asa" was a Civil War Vet, but to date no colaborating data found and his advanced age (60's) makes this doubtful. There is also an International Order of Odd Fellows insignia beside Asa's stone. The FLT initials on the insignia stand for Friendship, Love and Truth. (see picture)
Part of Fairview Cemetery land was owned by Asa. "Also transferred was the drive which was originally purchased by the trustees of the Madison Cemetery Association from Asa Talcott and his wife for $50.00. (Lake County Deed Vol. 1 pg 306) This drive was 24 rods of land, leading from Thompson Street (now River St.) to the burial grounds".
