In Memory of Grandma Finch

Clarissa Miner was born in Pharsalia, New York, June 22, 1814, and died after a lingering illness of several months, December 31, 1904, aged ninety years and nearly six months. She was married to Calvin Finch September 25, 1838; and to them were born five children, four of whom survive her. Together with her husband she came to Northwood, Iowa, in 1863, and has been a constant resident of this community ever since. Thirteen years ago she was bereft of her husband and for the past twelve years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Walker. During all these years she has lived a beautiful life in our midst. Though timid and unassuming, she was ever ready to lend a helping hand and to speak a kind word to one in trouble. She never saw the dark side of life, and as long as she retained her faculties it was a benediction to converse with her. She was a whole-hearted Christian, and while she made but little public display, she assured the writer that for many years her trust has been firmly fixed in Christ. As long as she was able to read her Bible was her constant companion. Like Dorcas of old, her hands, during her long residence in this community, were always willing to toil for the comfort and happiness of others. She was always a devoted wife, a true mother and a worthy citizen--one whose long residence has been a blessing to this community. In her death we lose another of our time-honored residents. But she accomplished her day and rests in that beautiful land where no one ever grows old. The sympathy of many friends is extended to the bereaved family and may the consolation of Christ come to them in their hour of deep sorrow.
