He was born September 29, 1887, in West Virginia, a son of Burton and Delphene Fox Haines. His wife, Anna Knotts Haines, died January 25, 1969.
A farmer, Mr. Haines had spent all of his life in Greene County, near Frosty Run, before moving to Charleston to live with his son. He was a member of the Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Miss Mercedes Haines, of Charleston, W. Va.; one son, Ellis A. Haines, also of Charleston; two granddaughters, Mrs. Nancy Cook, of Darnstadt, Germany, and Mrs. Janet Smith, of Denver, Col.; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Husk, of Waynesburg; and three brothers, John, of Waynesburg, Irwin Haines, of Carmichaels, R. D. and William Haines, of Mt. Morris, R. D. 1.
