Lifelong resident of Pike County, Ohio—a retired grocer, farmer, blacksmith, & restaurateur—residing & merchanting on U.S. Route 23 near the Pike-Scioto County line until the late 1940s when highway expansion forced relocation from Wetmore (Wakefield) to Waverly. Fourth-grade education. Born to Jacob & Nancy Jane (Walker) Brand. Spouse of Nellie Lou (Wills) Brand, married 54 years. Four daughters. Made & sold concrete blocks. Raised cattle, goats, chickens, & crops into his later years. Always awoke to a morning shot of hard liquor stored above his Murphy bed (folding bed). Known by middle name, "Adam," & nickname, "Ad." Died at home, 83, of heart disease.
