Fifteen children—ten sons & five daughters. 49 grandchildren/129 great-grandchildren/157 great-great-grandchildren & counting. Homemaker. Born to Jacob & Nancy Jane (Walker) Brand—her father a German immigrant, Civil War veteran, blacksmith, & Baptist minister, & her mother a pipe-smoking, "Full-blooded" Native American Indian, remarried widow, & illiterate homemaker. Nicknamed "Sally," the youngest of seven siblings, the two eldest maternal half-brothers. Resided on Neville Island, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Formerly of Germany, Pike County, Ohio where on April 14, 1897 she married Martin Edward Nagel, Jr., her husband of 52 years. Fifth-grade education. Always wore house dresses. Made homemade soap from lard. Neither owned nor drove a car. Called her 14-year-old granddaughter to her deathbed & whispered, "Can you keep a secret?... Don't ever tell anyone, but I can't stand children!" Died, 78, of metastatic breast cancer to the lungs.
