Later employed as an electrical engineer with the same company per the 1940 U.S. Federal Census. Eighth-grade education. Born to Jacob & Nancy Jane (Walker) Brand. Spouse of Laura E. (Donohoe) Brand, married 51 years. Four children. Regularly consumed "white lightning" per grandniece. "Saw double" while under its influence, "and when he came to a bridge he wouldn't know which one to take." Died at home, 72, of a coronary occlusion.
