Garrett Stanley, age 83 of Varney, passed away, Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Pikeville Medical Center.

Garrett was born in Pike County, Kentucky on February 9, 1928, the son of the Ireland Stanley and Pernie Stanley Stanley.

He was a retired custodian at St. Mary Magdalen. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army and was a member of the V.F.W.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Makowski and two brothers, Ermal Stanley and Harley Stanley.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Homiak and her husband, David of Southgate, Michigan, and Lori Kleiss and her husband, Bill of Elkton, Michigan, one brother, Dennis Stanley of Melvindale, Michigan, two sisters, Necie Crider of Pikeville, Ky., and Emilee Maynard of Warner Robins, Ga., four grandchildren, Jason Makowski (Robin), Sarah Boyd (Dave), Brian Homiak and Nathan Homiak, five great-grandchildren, Caleb Makowski, Brooklyn Makowski, Orion Makowski, Cynthia Boyd and Makayla Boyd.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel, with Shane Lockard and Fred Klatka officiating. Entombment will be in the St. Hedwig Cemetery and Mausoleum, 22755 Military Rd., Dearborn Heights, Michigan 48127

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel, with evening services at 7 p.m.
