George W. Schomers, 77, died Tuesday afternoon of a self-inflicted gun wound suffered about 8:30 Tuesday morning.

Mr. Schomers had been a barber since he was 14 years old and barbered in Mulberry for 48 years. When Mr. Schomers first came to Mulberry, he barbered with E. R. (Windy) Thomas in the old Bittner building north of the present laundromat. Later they moved the shop to its present location on Jackson Street. After Mr. Thomas died in 1949, Mr. Schomers bought the shop and was in business there until early this year. He had been in ill health since January and sold his barbershop on May 8.

Born in Lafayette on February 22, 1887, he was the son of Theodore and Mary (Kuntz) Schomers. He was married on August 29, 1912, to the former Catherin Killian, who died March 9, 1957.

Mr. Schomers was a member of Zion Lutheran church; the Barbers Union; American Legion Post No. 12, Frankfort; and the Mulberry Community club.

Survivors include a stepson, Edward A. Leach of Mulberry, and two sisters, Mrs. Teresa Schmidt and Mrs. Mary Stivers, both of Lafayette.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Otto Dorsch officiating. Burial will be in Spring Vale Cemetery in Lafayette.
