Mrs. Bloemendaal, the former Grace Van Surksum, was born Oct. 31, 1889 in South Dakota. She was married March 7, 1909 at Orange City. The couple farmed in Sioux and O'Brien counties until moving to Orange City in 1944. Mr. Bloemendaal died in 1972.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. William (Johanna) Van Klompenburg of Orange City, Mrs. Wilson (Evelyn) Beyer of Bellingham, Wash., and Mrs. Walter (Helen) Fowler of Denver; five sons, Gerald of Orange City, John of Granville, Howard of Long Beach, Calif., Clifford of Pomona, Calif., and Stanley of Melbourne, Fla.; 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Sam Klein of Boyden, Mrs. John Bothof of Chandler, Minn., and Mrs. Jake Kort of Edgerton, Minn.; three brothers, Henry of Leota, Minn., Cornie of Alton, and Edward of Hospers.
