Mrs. Johanna Van Klompenburg, age 100, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 29, at 10:30am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Heilman will officiate.

Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Saturday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Johanna was born on April 14, 1910, in rural Alton, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Van Surksum) Bloemendaal. She was raised in the Orange City area, where she attended country school.

On February 14, 1935, she married William Van Klompenburg in rural Alton. They farmed in the Orange City area, where she was a homemaker. In 1977, they retired into Orange City, and they spent 23 winters in Mission, Texas.

"Bill" passed away on February 18, 1999, in Hull.

Johanna then moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. On February 12, 2007, she transferred to the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

She was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies' Aid there.

Mrs. Van Klompenburg was a hard worker and assisted her husband on their farm. She was also a care giver to relatives and friends and faithfully visited shut-ins. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and gardening.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, LaDonna and Kenneth Huisman, of Orange City; two sons and their wives, Darrell and Cheri Van Klompenburg, of Chandler, Arizona; and Marlo and Carol Van Klompenburg, of Pella; eleven grandchildren, Lyle Huisman, Deb Korver, Brian Huisman, Wayne Huisman, Jana Shea, Elessa Marker, Deron Van Klompenburg, Faith Van Klompenburg, Chad Van Klompenburg, Mark Van Klompenburg, and Matthew Van Klompenburg; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a sister, Helyn Downing, of Denver, Colorado.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Van Klompenburg; two great-grandsons, Kayden and Gavin Huisman; five brothers, Gerald, John, Howard, Clifford, and Stanley Bloemendaal; and a sister, Evelyn Haverlock.
