Gerald Bloemendaal, age 85, of Orange City died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997 at the-Orange City Municipal Hospital.
A memorial service was held on Monday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Pastor Jack Gray officiated. Burial was held prior to the service at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. A prayer service was heldon Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Gerald was born Dec. 9, 1911 at Orange City, the son of Henry and Grace (Van Surksum) Bloemendaal. He was raised mostly in Orange City.
On Jan. 20, 1939 he married Clara Christine Eggink at Orange City. They farmed at Hospers for two years and then at Newkirk until 1961.
Mr. and Mrs. Bloemendaal then operated a motel in Hartley for four years and later moved to Florida. In 1967 they returned to northwest Iowa, settling at Orange City. Mrs. Bloemendaal died Dec. 24, 1991 at Sioux City.
On May 21, 1993 he married Hermina Bruxvoort Bloemendaal at Orange City.
They continued to live in Orange City. Mr. Bloemendaal was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Marilyn Uittenbogaard of Fresno, Calif., Linda Clark of Clear Lake, David Bloemendaal and his wife Joyce of Orange City, Jean Bloemendaal of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jerry Bloemendaal and his wife Mary of Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Johanna Van Klompenburg of Orange City, Evelyn Beyer of Bellingham, Wash., and Helen Douning of Denver, Colo.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren and four brothers, John, Howard, Clifford and Stanley. Memorials are being directed to the elevator fund at Calvary Christian Reformed Church.
