Former Hooper Resident Passes Away at Schuyler
Hooper relatives received the sad word Friday evening that Mrs. Geo. Harzke, 52, had passed away at five o'clock that afternoon at her home at Schuyler. She was a sister of Will and Dick Rodgers and Mrs. Soren Nelson and Mrs. Lucy Hite of this place and will be well, remembered by the older friends of the Rodgers family. Her death followed 15 years of illness and for the past five months she had been bedfast.
As Myrtle Mae Rodgers, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Rodgers, she was born in the Admah vicinity in Washington county July 22, 1880. She became a Hooper resident in 1889 when the family moved to the farm adjoining Hooper on the east. She grew to young womanhood here, becoming well known to our people, attending our schools and graduating from the high school with the class of 1897. Her marriage to George Harzke occurred in 1900 and since then Schuyler had been her home.
Besides the husband and the Hooper brothers and sisters, she is also survived by one daughter, Miss Hazel of Los Angeles, Calif., and these other sisters and brothers, Mrs. Abner Martin of Fremont, Mrs. J. H. Moyer of Genoa, Mrs. Ira Baker of Nebraska City, John Rodgers of Crookston, Jess Rodgers of Rapid City, S. D., and Perry Rodgers of Omaha.
Her funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at Schuyler, Hooper relatives attending them being, Mrs. and Mrs. Soren Nelson, Mrs. and Mrs. Dick Rodgers and family, Mr.and Mrs. Wm. Mauer and Mrs. Lucy Hite and daughter, Miss Gerda.
