Jesse Omega "J.O." Barnard, 98, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Saturday February 26, 2011 at the Landmark Center in Stuart. He was born on February 23, 1913, in Patrick County to the late Robert F. Barnard and Georgia Wood Barnard. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Law Barnard; six sisters, Mabel Rogers, Bessie Overby, Ruth Barnard, Lelia Hamilton, Evelyn Spangler, Larmie Davidson; three brothers, Marion, Lee, and Loy Barnard; and a special friend, Lola Clement. Mr. Barnard was an owner and operator of a Texaco / Short order restaurant, a former Deputy with the Patrick County Sheriffs Office, retired from J.P Stevens, and was a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas (Tom) and Bettie Barnard, of Roanoke; two granddaughters, Dana Staton and husband, Ronnie, Debra Henderlite; two great-grandchildren, Tomas Henderlite, Kayla Staton; one sister, Rosie Cox, of Stuart; and one brother, Frank Barnard, of Indiana. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with the Rev. Lowell Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2511 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Meadows of Dan, VA 24120. Arrangements by the Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
