Fred Thomas Schroeder Fred Thomas Schroeder, 87, a life long resident of Batavia passed away November 9, 2010, at Delnor Community Hospital.

He was born in Batavia on October 2, 1923, the son of Emil and Maude (McClelland) Schroeder. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Brady on May 14, 1949, at Holy Cross Church, Batavia, IL.

Fred enlisted into the United States Navy on January 19, 1942, during WWII, and was discharged November 18, 1947. He was an amazing man who dedicated his life to his loving family. He leaves a legacy of memories and ethics to his family and many friends. Fred taught people around him the importance of community, charity, patriotism, and church involvement through his actions and words.

Mr. Schroeder was employed by the City of Batavia Electric Department as a lineman for over 33 years. He was an active and athletic man who played in the adult softball league, participated in the over thirty basketball league into his fifties, and bowled in the Wednesday Night Moose League at Batavia Bowl for over fifty years.

He was a 62 year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #682 and lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Fred is survived by his children: Tom (Joan), Ted (Carrie), Terry (Nancy), Carol (Don) Schmitt, Todd (Kathi), Chris (Norm) Lewis, and Ky (Lynn) Luu; grandchildren John and Jim Schroeder, Amy (Mark) Majewski, Abby and Chas Schroeder, Sirrene and Lila Ayyad, Chas Berns and Sarah Schroeder, Michelle (Pete) Carlson, Sherry (Todd) Heckman, Kim Menard, Crissy (Tom) Oktavec, Diana (Kevin) Wittig, Derek, Danny, David (Angela) and Drew Schmitt, Andrew, Alex and Camry Schroeder, Matt (Aimee) Lewis, Brian (Kim) Lewis and Susan and Bryce Lewis and Kelly, Kelsey and Kenny Luu, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, a daughter Cathy Allard, sons Tim and Tracy (at infancy), a granddaughter Elizabeth Lewis, a grandson Tony Ayyad; and his siblings Robert, Harry, Walter, George, Agnes, and Irene.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. Funeral Services will begin with prayers at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Moss Family Funeral Home before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 West Main Street, Batavia, IL, to celebrate Mass at 10:30. Committal services will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Holy Cross Catholic Church Sound System Fund.
