Audrey Casey Simmons, 89, long time resident of Albuquerque, born May 25, 1921 in Yantis, TX, died on February 20, 2011 at her home with family by her side. She is survived by her children, Eileen Casey Cook, Janet Stoumbos, Craig Harrison Casey and wife Pamela, and Keith Wayne Casey and wife Dorothy; step-children, Joyce Aker and husband Marlin, Malissa Golf and husband Gary, Neil Simmons and wife Christie, and daughter in spirit, Angie Sanchez Carder; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members. Audrey was preceded in death by two husbands Kenneth Craig Casey and Henry C. Simmons, and by grandson, Sean Cordova. Audrey was born the youngest of 6 daughters to C.H. and Callie Slatten. She always talked of her fond memories of growing up on the family farm in East Texas. She attended East Texas State in Commerce, TX and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Audrey started her teaching career in Winsboro, TX. She married Kenneth in 1944 and they later moved to Albuquerque where he was stationed at KAFB. Audrey retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in 1978 after many years of service including her time teaching at both Madison and McKinley Junior High Schools. In her "golden years" she married long time family friend Henry Simmons. They resided in Estancia, NM until his death in 1993. Audrey was very active in Netherwood Park Church of Christ and she considered her fellow church members to be family. She was known for her gentle and caring demeanor, and her beautiful smile was her trademark - a smile that will be missed by all.
