The long train was powered by two engines. The engineer was Erwin Egler, Belle Plaine.

Dolan was an engineer in the district office of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. here. During the conversation of Mason City area phones to the dial system in 1957, he was central office foreman for Northwestern Bell's local office and was responsible for much of the conversion work.

He is survived by his wife and six children.

Dolan was born March 28, 1924, at Rockwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dolan. He was graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Dougherty. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 when he began his employment with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co.

He was married to Marjorie Keeler in 1949 in Mason City.

Dolan had served with Northwestern Bell as manager in Nashua and Garner before being transferred to Mason City. He had been district manager in Mason City the last year He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus Council 1006, Mason City.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; six children, Mary Linda, James Michael, Kathleen Anne, Gregory Paul, Thomas Kevin and Deborah Sue; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dolan, Mason City. Six sisters and a brother also survive: Mrs. Pat (Theresa) Boyle, Dougherty, Mrs. Don (Anne) Kenney, Clinton; Mrs. Jerry (Bernadette) Coyle, Sioux City; Mrs. Tom (Joan) Pattee, Mason City; Mrs. Joe (Mary Ellen) Sensiba and Patrick Daniel Dolan.
