He was born August 8,1908 in Clay County to the late Joseph and Virgie (Warden) Hughes. He was a member of the Holly Springs Church of Christ. He was retired from the Indiana Highway Department.
Survivors include his wife: Lizzie Edith (Adams) Hughes of Livingston; two sons, Jessie Hughes of Anderson,IN and Douglas Hughes of Livingston,TN; two daughters, Gladys Rollins of Gas City, IN and Grace Foland of Crossville, TN; one brother, Fred Hughes of Martinsville, IN; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by: two sons, Vadous and Glenn Hughes; one daughter, Carolyn Hughes; one granddaughter, Terri Lynn (Hughes) Cox.
