The Wellington Leader June 9, 1983 Mrs. H.L. (Roxie) Lowry, died in Collingsworth General Hospital at 12:32 a.m. Thursday, Jun 2, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Lowry was a victim of Amylodosis, a rare heriditary disease for which there is no cure. She was one of four members of her family who are, or have been, part of a research project being carried out by a team of doctors in Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, Mass. She was 78 years of age. Mrs. Lowry grew up in the Lutie Community, then lived on the South Plains and in Central Texas before she and Mr. Lowry returned to Wellington 17 years ago to make this their retirement home. For a number of years they operated Lowry's Magazine and News shop in downtown Wellington. She was born October 15, 1904, in Mountain Home, Ark., one of 12 children of the late John H. and Harriet Messick Young. They and their older children came to Collingsworth County in 1906 and lived in the Lillie community. In 1909, the family moved to Lutie, where Mrs. Lowry received her education and grew up. She was married to H.L.Lowry September 25, 1921 at Lutie. They moved to Muleshoe that year, but returned to Lutie in 1946, where they operated the Lutie Store.They moved to Meridian in 1951 and to Hico in 1958, then to Wellington in 1966. Mrs. Lowry was a member of 1st ChristianChurch. Surviving Mrs. Lowry are her husband; one son, Boyd Lowry of Stephenville; one daughter, Mrs. Imogene Williams of Sacramento,Calif.; two brothers, J.H. (Henry) Young of Portales, N.M.; James K. (Polk) Young of Irving; four sisters, Mrs. L.C. Sweat of Wellington; Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Southgate, Calif.; Mrs. Aldan Taylor and Mrs. Madelene Vaughan of Arlington; 5 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren.
