Grover Young, 50, former tax assessor of Collingsworth County, died at Arlington Saturday, December 15. He had suffered a stroke on December 6 and pneumonia developed they day before his death.
His death was the first to occur in the J. H. Young family, which included the parents and 12 children.
Mr. Young was born in Arkansas in 1895. He came with his parents to this county about 1905. After living two years at Cottonwood, they moved to Lutie, where he remained until he was called into service in the first World War. Serving overseas, he was wounded seven times and gassed once.
He returned to Collingsworth County and served two terms as county tax assessor. In 1925 he and his family moved to Arlington, where they continued to make their home.
Mr. Young engaged in the poultry and dairy business at Arlington. He was active in the Disabled Veterans Organization, the IOOF, the American Legion, served as a steward in the Methodist Church, and took part in many other civic enterprises.
He suffered a stroke of paralysis about four and one-half years ago, but recovered. A second stroke came last spring.
Surviving are his widow and four sons, Lt. Bennie G. Young of Arlington, Morris Young, S 3-c, en route home from the Marshall Islands; Jimmie Young, A-S stationed with the Navy in Florida; and John Young of Arlington.
Other survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Young of Arlington; and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jack Lowry and Mrs. Rufus Sweat of Wellington; Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Southgate, CA; Mrs. H. L. Lowry and Tye Young of Muleshoe; Mrs. Alda Taylor and Mrs. Medeline Vaughan of Arlington; Jason Young of Weatherford; Dewey Young of Dallas; Henry Young of Artesia, NM; and Major James Young, en route from Manila.
